Nominated by Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation
HandCraft Services, led by the Nichols family, has been a service leader in the Richmond community for over a quarter century. Through their dedication to philanthropy, they have extended a helping hand to members of our community during some of life’s most vulnerable situations.
From its start as a small dry-cleaning business in 1970, HandCraft Services has grown to serve more than 50 hospitals and 800 medical practices each year. This company applies its philosophy of always going the extra mile to business and community service. This service tradition started by founder John A. Nichols has become generational with Keith, Jeff, Jay, and Neal Nichols continuing that legacy in their personal and professional lives.
HandCraft Services’ support is a significant reason Bon Secours’ Care-A-Van today has more than 24,000 patient visits providing primary and urgent care to uninsured patients of all ages. The company’s commitment to Bon Secours also includes providing complementary linen services for St. Mary’s Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House, which provides a home-away-from-home for family of out-of-town patients.
Beyond its enduring support of Bon Secours, HandCraft Services also sponsors scholarships at Benedictine College Preparatory helping students with financial need get access to a quality education. True to their philosophy of always going the extra mile, the Nichols family builds personal relationships with these students and employs many of them at HandCraft Services.
The Enduring Philanthropic Partner award recognizes those whose long-term philanthropic investment has made a demonstrable impact in our community. Undoubtedly, HandCraft Services led by the Nichols family has done that and will continue to do so for generations to come.
